City University of Hong Kong Department of Public Policy Teaching Laboratory for Case Study & Survey Analysis (CSSA) Lecture Series Current Directions and Issues in U.S. Public Administration Prof. David H. Rosenbloom Distinguished Professor of Public Administration & Editor-in-Chief, Routledge Public Administration and Public Policy Series American University Date: 23 February 201 Time: 4:00pm – 5:30pm Venue: B7516, (POL Multi-purpose Room), 7/F, Blue Zone, Yeung Kin Man Academic Building, City University of Hong Kong (Please use Life No. 8) Language: English Abstract: The academic field of public administration is often said to have an 'identity crisis.' Currently, in the United States, the field's identity will be affected by the directions it takes in dealing with at least four major concerns: (1) the professional dynamics of knowledge creation; (2) public values; (3) pressing legal issues, including separation of powers, rule of law, empowering and regulating collaborative governance, and street-level accountability; and (4) the rise of behavioral economics. The seminar will explain how and why each of these concerns will shape the near-term future of theory, research, and pedagogy in the study of U.S. public administration. All are welcome!
