SYNOPSIS
The United Nations projected the risk of urban drought increases, threatening urban water resources for more than 233 million people by 2050 globally, impacting food and energy production negatively while increasing the chance of conflict and potentially displacing populations. Climate change projections predict a 50 million cubic meter (MCM) reduction in local yield in Hong Kong alone. Further, the flow of the Dong River, which acts as the source of our purchased water, has been reduced by 30%, and the current level of water withdrawals has already exceeded its ecologically safe level.

In response to the call for sustainability solutions in Hong Kong, this symposium has invited top gear experts from countries and regions where socio-technological and institutional innovations have occurred and good practices have emerged in water resource management, water pollution prevention and control, flood control, and emergency response. To raise public awareness and facilitate collective actions, we welcome participation from all concerned parties, that is you and me, everyone.
